💡 How Brigit Connects to Banks
Brigit uses Plaid, a secure third-party service used by 5,000+ financial apps (including Venmo, Coinbase, Robinhood). Connection issues are usually on the bank's side or with your credentials, not with Brigit itself.
10 Fixes for Bank Connection Issues
1 Verify Your Login Credentials
The most common issue. Make sure you're using your online banking username and password (not your ATM PIN or mobile app PIN).
- Go to your bank's website directly
- Log in successfully with the same credentials
- If you can't log in there, reset your password first
- Then try connecting to Brigit again
2 Complete Two-Factor Authentication
Many banks require 2FA (security code via text/email). Watch for prompts during the Plaid connection process.
- Start the bank connection process
- Watch for a 2FA prompt (may take a few seconds)
- Check your phone/email for the code
- Enter the code before it expires
3 Update the Brigit App
Outdated apps may have connection bugs that have been fixed in newer versions.
- Go to App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android)
- Search for Brigit
- Tap "Update" if available
- Restart the app and try again
4 Try During Off-Peak Hours
Bank servers and Plaid can get overloaded during peak times (Monday mornings, paydays, month-end).
- Try early morning (6-8 AM) or late evening (9-11 PM)
- Avoid the 1st and 15th of the month if possible
- Avoid Monday mornings
5 Clear App Cache/Data
Corrupted cached data can cause connection issues.
iPhone: Delete and reinstall the app
Android: Settings → Apps → Brigit → Clear Cache → Clear Data
6 Check Your Bank's Status
Your bank may be experiencing technical issues. Check:
- Your bank's website or app for service alerts
- Twitter/X for "bank name down" reports
- DownDetector.com for your bank
7 Temporarily Disable Extra Security
Some bank security features block third-party connections.
- Log into your bank's website
- Go to Security Settings
- Temporarily disable "block third-party access" if present
- Connect to Brigit
- Re-enable security afterward
8 Use a Different Device/Network
Sometimes device or network issues interfere with connections.
- Try Wi-Fi if on cellular (or vice versa)
- Try a different phone/tablet
- Disable VPN if you're using one
9 Link a Different Account
If one account won't connect, try a different bank account. Some banks work better with Plaid than others.
10 Contact Brigit Support
If nothing else works, contact Brigit support:
- In-app chat (fastest)
- Email: [email protected]
Include: Your bank name, error message, and steps you've tried.
Banks With Known Issues
⚠️ May Have Connection Problems
- Small credit unions (not all are supported by Plaid)
- Some prepaid card accounts
- Very new neobanks
- Business accounts
Still Having Issues?
If you've tried all solutions and still can't connect:
- Consider opening an account with a well-supported bank (Chime, Chase, etc.)
- Try a Brigit alternative that may work better with your bank
- Wait a few days and try again (bank/Plaid issues often resolve)
